250t Sany for Terranova

UK rental company Terranova Crane Hire has taken delivery of the UK’s first 250 tonne Sany SAC2500E All Terrain. The crane is rated at 2.5 metres but can handle up to 134 tonnes at a 3.5 metre radius. Capacity on the fully extended main boom is 12 tonnes at up to a 20 metre radius.

The five axle crane features a 75 metre seven section main boom, topped by an 11 to 20 metre bi-fold swingaway with hydraulic luffing up to 50 degrees, a seven section insert can be added between the base and tip sections of the swingaway, while two eight metre lattice inserts can be added between the boom nose and extended swingaway for a 116 metre maximum tip height.

Maximum counterweight is 80 tonnes, of which 22 tonnes can be carried on board along with a hook block within the UK’s 16.5 tonne per axle limits. Where 12 tonne axle loads are the rule, the unit cannot travel with any ancillary equipment. Both configurations are with three driving axles, rather than the optional four axle drive – all wheel steer is standard.

The SAC2500E is a twin engine crane, with Mercedes power in the chassis, driving a 12+2 speed ZF Traxon transmission, Kesseler axles and disc brakes on all five axles. With a choice 10x6x10 or 10x8x10 drive/steer configurations. The superstructure is powered by Cummins. The new crane went straight to work on a major project in Devon.
The new crane arrives with Terranova

Terranova director Alec Glover said: “There were many reasons for choosing Sany over other suppliers. The key factors were the quality of the cranes, which we believe is equal to other leading manufacturers, the strength of the charts and lifting performance, and Sany’s growing presence not just in the UK and Ireland, but across Europe. I expect Sany will continue to gain market share and become a strong force in the European mobile crane market.”

Sany UK/Ireland country manager Andrew Snow added: “We are delighted that Alec has placed his trust in us with this order. Sany already has strong brand recognition in many parts of the world, and the European market is now realising what we have to offer. With more products being introduced for this market, our position will only strengthen.”

Founded in 1979 by Alec Glover senior, Terranova Crane Hire is now run by his son Alec and daughter Jane from the company’s Surrey head office. Terranova operates a fleet of cranes ranging from 13 to 250 tonnes, serving projects throughout the South of England.
