UK heavy transport company Collett & Sons has completed delivery of six 158 tonne diesel engines from Dublin Port to Orion Business Park, North Dublin, for a global project freight forwarder.

Each engine was 13.4 metres long, 3.4 metres wide and 4.7 metres high and were transported using Collett's 250 tonne Goldhofer girder bridge trailer configured as a 20 axle unit built around each engine at the port.
Navigating a roundabout
The project was completed in two phases with three engines transported in each phase. All deliveries followed the same 15 mile route with police escort, private escorts and night departures at 23:00 as required by local authorities.
Route inspections identified pinch points requiring rerouting and contraflow manoeuvres to navigate tight turns and low clearance areas while minimising street furniture removal.
One of the engines arrive at the Orion Business Park
For final positioning at the Orion Business Park, a 10 axle SPMT was used for the short distance transfer from a transhipment area within the site. Each engine was then positioned onto its final plinth using jacking equipment. During transhipment, the girder bridge trailer was dismantled and returned to port for the next engine.
Preliminary works included detailed route surveys, coordination with Garda police escorts and local authorities, site car park preparation for transhipment, ground preparation and construction of a new access gate.
