Fatal fall from height

A man died yesterday after reportedly falling from height, possibly from a work platform, in Shoeburyness, Essex, due east of London in the UK.

The man, George Gilbey, 40, an electrician, was also something of a celebrity, having appeared with his parents on the UK television show Gogglebox and then Celebrity Big Brother.

A local source told us that he had been working from the Genie 45 articulated boom, seen at the scene, which was working alongside a team re-roofing the building. but we must be crystal clear, that this report comes from a single source and we are working to corroborate or dismiss it.

UPDATE: Friday 29th - At least one national newspaper has stated that Gilbey fell through a skylight, although the police have not confirmed this. In either case he was clearly not wearing a harness with an attached lanyard.
UPDATE: Tuesday April 2: It now seems that the skylight report is closer to what happened, but we have still not been able to confirm this beyond all reasonable doubt.

Gilbey fell to the ground from a height in the region of 10 metres and was declared dead at the scene.

The Health & Safety Executive is working with the local police to investigate the incident. We will update as and when we learn more.
