Five truck cranes for Davis

Davis Motor Crane Service of Irving, Texas, has purchased five new 36.3 tonne Terex T 340-1 truck cranes. The cranes were ordered through local dealer Scott-Macon Equipment.

The crane features a four section 29 metre main boom and a 9.8 to 14.9 metre extendable swingaway extension taking the maximum on board tip height to 44.8 metres.

The three axle crane weighs just over 28 tonnes when equipped with the full jib and maximum 4,990kg counterweight and can travel at road speeds of up to 60 MPH.

The Terex T340-1 truck crane

General manager Keith McKee said: “We are upgrading our fleet of 35-ton truck cranes. Terex is the only manufacturer that still offers a truck crane in the 40-ton class at a price that is competitive. It is small enough to get into close quarters, yet the T 340-1 truck crane gives us capacities not offered by All Terrain cranes of the same class. We can provide a 40-ton truck crane without going to a boom truck. The construction industry still looks at a truck crane as superior to a boom truck, even if they are both rated at the same capacity.”

Davis Cranes was founded in 1962 by Raymond Davis and his nephew, Robert and has grown into a large family business operating under five different brands, Davis Motor Crane and Crocker Crane Servic in Irving, McIntire Equipment Company and Metroplex Rig Movers in Fort Worth and Scharff Crane Service in Sherman, Texas, with a combined fleet of 140 cranes and 161 trucks.

“We have been really pleased with our relationship with Jim Strobush at Terex and Alan and Anita Woodruff, Robert Woodruff, and Mike Pentry of Scott-Macon Equipment. This successful relationship was forged by our long time relationship with Danny Eastep of Scott-Macon, who has been calling on us for over 40 years and offers a wealth of expertise in crane rental and sales,” added McKee.
