Runaway crane wheel causes havoc

The wheel of an All Terrain crane came off on the M62 motorway, near Huddersfield in the UK, on Thursday night, seriously damaging four cars and a truck, but amazingly causing no serious injuries.

The incident occurred on the eastbound lane between junctions 22 and 23 at around 8.40pm on Thursday but affected both sides of the highway after the wheel bounced over the central reservation. The crane initially carried on, seemingly unaffected as one of its wheels rolled at speed down the hard shoulder.
