Large repeat order for Kalmar

American terminal services provider TraPac has placed a repeat order for 17 automated Kalmar stacking cranes and 11 automated straddle carriers for its port in Los Angeles, due for delivery in 2015 and early 2016.

The new order follows a previous order placed in 2011 for 10 automated Kalmar stacking cranes and 17 automated straddle cranes, the company said the combined order was its first large automation order in the Americas region.

Lennart Brelin, vice president Kalmar Americas, said: “TraPac is one of the major automation projects for Kalmar where we have been able to demonstrate our ability to deliver a total solution including both the hardware as well as the software for the entire automation.”

An automated Kalmar stacking crane

Established in 1987 TraPac is a subsidiary of Japanese transport company Mitsui OSK Lines. Operating from two ports California and one in Jacksonville, Florida, the company’s terminal in Los Angeles is fully automated.
