Crane overturns at university

A large boom truck/ truck crane overturned onto buildings at the University of Illinois campus in Urbana-Champaign yesterday.

Thankfully no one was hurt in the incident, which happened while the crane was unloading roofing materials at the Veterinarian building, for a contractor which was repairing the roof of the building, home to the small and large animal clinics.

Two other cranes were brought in to help put the overturned crane back on its wheels. Damage to the building was minor as was the apparent damage on the crane. An investigation into what caused the overturn has been launched.

And yet again, an "operator" who has not a clue about the pitfalls of working on retracted outriggers. Not only should he go back to school, he should face detention and retraining.
