Berry goes first

UK rental company Berry Cranes has become the first customer for the new, 1.5 x 1.5 metre lightweight crane mata from Outriggerpads.

Manufactured from high density polyethylene (HDPE), they are lighter in weight that wood or steel alternatives and highly durable. The material is resistant to water, oil and chemicals with little to no risk of corrosion or splintering.

The new spreader plates incorporate four metal lifting bars and weigh 214kg each, but are said to have a greater load bearing capability than heavier steel equivalents. .

Owner and managing director Neil Berry said: “We are proud to be the first hire company in the UK to invest in this new type of crane mat. The integrated lifting bars make them quick and easy to position. We were also impressed with the light weight, the load-bearing capabilities and the longer working life compared to steel mats.”

Founded by Neil Berry in 2000, Berry Cranes runs a fleet of 10 mobile cranes, including All Terrains and aluminium truck mounted cranes up to 100 tonnes capacity.

It is refreshing to see a conscientious company investing in new technologies. First in the country to try the Bocker cranes, and now a new type of crane mat. Hopefully, more companies will follow your lead Neil.
