Russian electrocution

The driver/operator of a loader crane burnt to death after his boom contacted high tension overhead power lines in Krasnoyarsk, central Russia, late last month.

The man had been unloading building materials for a block of flats when he raised the straight telescopic boom firmly into the power lines which then continued to arc for quite some time, before the power lines burnt out.

The arcing continued for quite some time

The fire service arrived promptly but could do little to help the operator, due to the power of the electrical current. Even dousing the flames would have put them in serious danger.

The power of the electrical arcing was so strong that it caused other fires in the immediate surroundings.
