Bob Dickey R.I.P

We have just received the news that UK crane hire owner Bob Dickey passed away last Thursday following a long illness.

Dickey was the owner of Crane Services Leeds, which he merged with David Slack’s Nationwide Crane Hire in 1986. The deal was accomplished with both owners swapping shares of their businesses, so that each owned 50 percent in both companies. Eventually Crane Hire Leeds became a dormant company, the 'Leeds' was dropped and Crane Services used as an alternate trading name to Nationwide Crane Hire. In 2006 Dickey sold his 50 percent share in the business to Slack. His sons Craig and Paul still working within the crane hire sector. (We would like to add to this article, and would appreciate any details or photos that past colleagues might be able to send us).

In the words of a contributor: “Bob was certainly a character to say the least and never minced his words. He started off in the steel erection business and latterly was co-owner of Crane Services Ltd one of the major crane hire companies in the UK, he will be a sad loss to all who knew him.”

The funeral will be held at Cottingley Crematorium Leeds this Friday – March 6th
