Sennebogen 673 for HuP

German contractor Himmel und Papesch (HuP), of Bebra, Hessen has purchased a Sennebogen 673 R-HD telescopic crawler crane for work on a new high voltage line between the Lower-Saxony town of Hemmoor and the regional capital, Cuxhaven.

The 35km long 110 kV line employs new solid-wall steel pylons which are driven in using a new a new method. First the existing lattice pylons are removed and the foundation is prepared for the new pylons. The new crane is used to lift out the old and unload the new.

The crane is then used in combination with a Junttan hydraulic hammer, initially to drive the existing foundations deeper into the ground with the six tonne drop weight to create space for the new foundation. A two metre diameter steel guide/pile frame developed by HuP is placed around the existing foundation hole and a new 15 metre high foundation pile is driven vertically into the ground.

The versatility of the Sennebogen 673E has proven to be a winner on its first job

It takes two to three days per pylon with this new procedure – a substantial time saving compared to other methods. The foundation can be subjected to load immediately and there is minimal damage to the existing landscape.

The new crane has proved to be ideal for the application with its 36 metre main boom and high versatility thanks to its telescopic boom .

I may well be wrong here - and don't shoot me down if I am, but I always thought that telescopic cranes were not suitable for this sort of piling work ? OK that snippet of information goes back about 10 years - someone will correct me I hope, but is that or was that not the case ?
