Is this a pad?

In spite of all the coverage on the importance of using appropriate outrigger pads and mats a Vertikal.net reader spotted a dreadful example on a major site in the UK yesterday.

In the readers own words:
“Just thought I should send you this photo taken yesterday on a major construction site in the Northwest of England. It never ceases to amaze me the things that people will do to just get the job done. Needless to say I informed the site management who simply said that it was noted.”

This block was in use under the scissor lift jack on a major site in the UK

The make-shift mat/block was under the extended jack of a Rough Terrain scissor lift - definitely a Death Wish

Vertikal Comment

The reaction sounds like an all too frequent example of major contractors paying lip service to safety.

The UK still has too many contractors’ staff who treat safety as a box ticking exercise and while they demand reams of paperwork, accreditation cards and induction courses for delivery drivers, they do not jump on things like this.
