Second man dies in Polish crane accident

A fatal accident at a Warsaw, football stadium site in which a platform fell from a tower crane, has claimed a second life. The accident occurred on December 1 at Poland’s national football stadium being constructed for Euro 2012.

It appears that a tower crane was lifting the two men in a cage/work platform suspended from the hook. The two were due to work on installing lighting on one of communication shafts. The two men fell from a height of 15 metres, one died at the scene while the other died later in hospital.

Reports say that the cage fell due to a broken safety latch, although this is far from certain, an investigation is due to report later this month.
