12. March 2008 | Comments (0)

Manitowoc unveiled plans for a Manitowoc model 31000 crawler crane today at Conexpo in Las Vegas.

The highly innovative new crane will offer a maximum lift capacity of 2,300 tonnes and up to 100 metres of main boom and over 100 metres of luffing jib.

The new model will also feature a Variable Position Counterweight, essentially a hydraulic knuckle boom arm that maintains the load over the centre of the cranes four track units by extending it hyrdaulically.

The crane offers a very small footprint of 17 metres x 20 metres, can be transported on 85 truck loads and takes just 10 days to assemble.

The company claims that it will pick and carry its entire load chart and maintain low ground bearing pressure by avoiding point loadings by constantly balancing the counterweight and load over the centre of the machine.

The first unit is sold to a North American customer and will be delivered in 2010.
