Two new booms from Snorkel

Snorkel has announced that it is launching two new articulated booms, with 80 and 85ft platform heights, the largest the company has ever built.

Both units are equipped with articulating jibs, the 80J articulates through 140 degrees, while the 85J has 135 degrees but also rotates by 140 degrees, a first for Snorkel.

The announcement is short on detail, but in typical Snorkel style both models offer a good deal of outreach, with the 80J providing 18 metres (18.5 metres working outreach) and the 85J 19 metres.

The riser is likely to be a dual stage design similar to that used on the company’s AB50J rather than the single riser of the older AB60J.

The two new booms include four wheel drive, four wheel steer and fully proportional joystick controls as standard.

The 80J weighs 17,000 kgs while the 85J is 700 kgs heavier both have an overall width of just over 2.5 metres.
