Off the back of a truck

A large spider lift came off the back of a delivery truck on Thursday last week in the UK as it negotiated a roundabout.

The spider lift in the road

The incident occurred off junction 11A of the M1 motorway, near Luton just before the evening rush hour was about to get underway. The platform, which looks like a 32 metre Falcon FS320 owned by rental company Higher Access, slipped off the truck as it went around the circle, and does not appear to have been adequately tied down.

Fortunately - given that it weighs more than 5.5 tonnes - it just landed in the road and no other vehicles or people were involved.

The platform is recovered

Even the machine itself does not look to have come off too badly from the fall.
