Crane lands on cruise ship

A luffing tower crane on a dry dock crane at a shipyard in the Bahamas collapsed onto a large cruise ship yesterday which is undergoing a refit at the yard.

The crane fell onto the Oasis of the Seas which is owned and operated by the Royal Caribbean cruise line. According to the local authorities eight people were injured in the incident, although none of them have suffered life threatening injuries.

Royal Caribbean Cruises released a statement saying: “We are responding to a construction site incident at the Great Bahamas Shipyard, where Oasis of the Seas is currently in dry dock. We are accounting for the whereabouts of all site personnel and working with local authorities to determine if there have been any injuries. We are aware of damage to the dock structure and to construction cranes. We are assessing damage to the ship.”
