The new Genie GS-1330m micro scissor lift

The new lift, will be made in China, and is looking to tap into the growing market for smaller lighter scissor lifts, with current offerings ranging from drivable versions of push around scissors lifts, to heavier duty scissor lifts, such as the Hy-brid HB1230 and HB1430 lifts from Custom Equipment, that compete with the 12ft mast type lifts. Overall weight is 890kg, complete with steel checker plate platform, roll out deck extension, an overall width of 780mm, and an overall length of around 1.4 metres, yet platform capacity is a 227kg and the machine can still drive at full height.

The new model features direct electric drive

As on the Genie GS-1932 the scissor stack is centred under the extended platform, helping maintain stability and improving platform rigidity, especially on the deck extension. The direct DC wheel motor drive not saves power, but also allows it to easily climb 25 percent grades. The new machine complies fully with ANSI, CE and ISO standards and will be available for delivery worldwide from 2019.

Vertikal Comment

This is an interesting move from Genie and it should prove a very popular machine, given that it will fit into a 1,000kg /2,000lb standard elevator with the ladder removed. It is a tad on the heavy side to go head to head with the real ultra micro scissor lifts, but certainly goes head to head with the 13ft Dingli JCPT0607DCS which has been selling well, as has the LGMG SS0407 which must surely have taken some market share away from the 19ft scissor lift market?

With Genie entering this market and JLG planning to add a product, not to mention the other Chinese producers such as Sinoboom and we might well see a shift from the 19 ft scissor lifts to these smaller 13 and possibly 15ft models that are lighter, more compact and almost certainly cheaper – just as we saw a move away from the full size 20ft slab electric scissor lifts to the 19s in the late 1990s.

Interesting to see how this develops and the impact it has on incumbents such as Custom and Dingli etc…
