Fatal scissor lift fall

A man died on Sunday at the Nanshan America aluminium casting and extrusion plant in Lafayette, Indiana when the scissor lift he was using overturned after it was struck by the overhead crane he was working on.

The man, Kerry Wheeldon, 51, an employee at the plant, which is located to the north west of Indianapolis - was servicing the crane around lunchtime on Sunday, when something caused it to start travelling, so that it collided with the scissor lift, which according to one source caused it to overturn, while another source said that it did not overturn.

Both agree that Wheeldon was harnessed to the platform and yet fell, according to the preliminary findings of the autopsy he died from blunt force injuries to his torso. The Occupational Safety and Health Administration is investigating the incident.
