New high capacity flat top Comansa

Spanish tower crane manufacturer Comansa has launched a new high capacity flat top crane, the 21LC1050.

The new crane is targeted at large industrial or mining projects as well as the construction of buildings with prefabricated heavy-weight steel structures. It is available with maximum capacities of 25, 37.5 and 50 tonnes and can be erected with jib lengths of between 30 and 80 metres in five metre increments. A special optional jib configuration is available for up to 85 metres radius.

Comansa's new 21LC1050 is available with maximum capacities of 25, 37.5 and 50 tonnes

The slewing mechanism design is similar in concept to the 21LC750 and 21LC660 in that the jib and counter-jib are both connected directly to the slew ring fabrication which is said to offer faster, safer assembly. The 21LC1050 also shares a large number of jib and counter-jib sections with the smaller 21LC750 and 21LC660 giving greater efficiency for fleet owners.

The jib and counter-jibs can be assembled in numerous different configurations allowing users to better adapt them to the specific needs of each project. The complete counter-jib structure comprises five modular elements that allow up to six different configurations. When the crane is assembled with an 80 metre jib tip, the counter-jib radius is 31 metres, while it can be reduced to 27 metres for a 50 metre jib or to 21 metres with a 30 metre jib. All counter-jib radii can be reduced by one metre when the optional steel counterweights are employed.

The Comansa 21LC1050 has a jib tip of up to 80 metres, but can be rigged to 85 metres with additional equipment

The 21LC1050 also features a new 2.5 metre section D36B tower which retains compatibility with the other Comansa tower sections of this size. The new tower will become the standard 2.5 metre section tower for all Comansa models. The crane can be erected to a freestanding height of 73.3 metres with this tower or to more than 98 metres when combined with wider Comansa tower sections.

The 21LC1050 employs a 20mm hoist rope for higher rope capacity, the standard hoist has capacity for 720 metres of wire rope and reaches speeds of up to 166 metres a minute in the 25 and 37.5 tonnes models, and 83 metres a minute on the 50 tonne version. For projects where greater speeds are required - up to 300 metres a minute - two optional higher powered hoists are available which can also be equipped with Lebus drums with a rope capacity of 1,570 metres.

The Comansa 21LC1050 single/double trolley system with automatic reeving changes

The 21LC1050 can work with a simple front trolley for higher jib tip capacity and higher hoist speeds or equipped with a double - front and rear - trolley for heavier overall loads. Comansa’s PowerLift system is standard, allowing the crane to improve the load chart by 10 percent, for all but the nominal capacity rating. For example as a 25 tonne model, the jib tip capacity is 10,800kg, but when the operator employs the PowerLift system the maximum load at the jib end increases to 11,880kg.

Comansa's new 21LC1050 uses the new J-320 climbing system

The 21LC1050 uses the J3-20 hydraulic climbing cage, which is compatible with other Comansa models and offers a jacking force of 200 tonnes, the highest available on a 2.5 metre wide tower section. The frame also incorporates a number of features, said to speed up the climbing process and reduce assembly time.

The 21LC1050 comes standard with the XL version of Comansa’s new Cube cab with fully glazed front.
