Tower crane brought down in explosion

The Columbian authorities have demolished the remnants of the new Chirajara Bridge, including the tower crane that was being used to build it.

The Chirajara Bridge following the partial collapse in January


The move follows the partial collapse of the almost completed bridge in January, which killed nine bridge workers and injured several others. A subsequent investigation has revealed that the cause was due to a design error, thus the removal, in preparation to start again.

The bridge - 300 metres above the valley - on the border of Cundinamarca and Meta provinces, was to be part of the highway that connects the capital Bogota to the city of Villavicencio.
The demolition was captured on video, which you can see below.

What an odd thing to do.. Surely that made more work than dismantling it ? Was it symbolic ?
