Deutz first Stage V engine

German engine manufacturer Deutz has unveiled the first of its EU Stage V engines, the TCD 6.1.

The 6.1 litre six cylinder engine generates 180 kW and was assembled in the company's Cologne-Porz production facility, and will be delivered to Deutz Austria in Vienna.

The EU Stage V standard is achieved by fitting diesel particulate filters (DPF), with a “heat management” system burning off the particles collected in the DPF. Deutz has also developed a “heat mode” to raise the exhaust gas temperature and to ensure the machinery is operated safely.

The new TCD 6.1 engine is unveiled

The Stage V standard was proposed in 2014 and will be implemented next year, Deutz claims to be the first engine manufacturer to be given an EU Stage V certificate. The company originally announced that they would be producing a Stage V engine back in 2015 - see Deutz to launch EU Stage V engines.
Plant manager Michael Reimer said: “We are proud to have seen the emergence of our ‘Stage V certified’ engines right through to completion with the assembly of this first series production engine and, as a consequence, to have kept our promise to our customers. The months of preparations as well as our experience with highly advanced exhaust after-treatment systems are now paying off as production ramp-up of the new Stage V engines is running smoothly.”
