Scotland’s first LTM 1450-8.1

Scottish rental company Whyte Crane Hire has taken delivery of a 450 tonne Liebherr LTM 1450-8.1 All Terrain crane, the first in Scotland.

The eight axle LTM 1450-8.1 can travel complete with its full 85 metre main boom, outriggers and winch within 12 tonne axle loads. In the UK where axle loads of up to 16 tonnes are tolerated, it can also travel with its seven metre base swingaway extension and up to 24 tonnes of counterweight on board. The crane includes the manufacturer’s VarioBallast adjustable counterweight, and Variobase outrigger set up systems.

Managing director Mark Syme said: "This new crane concept will be a significant asset to the Whyte Crane Hire fleet. I have no doubt that the LTM 1450's combination of great hoist height and versatile travel capabilities will prove invaluable for many of our very high reach jobs, including repairing wind turbines and building and decommissioning tower cranes."
