On the tractor roof

The start of Gloucester rugby club’s game against Worcester Warriors on Sunday was delayed after a giant rugby ball lifted one of the crossbars out of its retainers.

The large rugby balls which brought down the cross bar

The incident occurred in the warm up prior to the scheduled kick off of 14:00 when several larger inflatable balls were rolled around the field. Unsure of how to reach the bar ground staff working in front of the large crowd fetched their tractor in and two of them climbed up onto the cab roof and managed to install the bar.

It looked as though this might not have been the first time this unit has been used as a form of access equipment. Perhaps they need a visit from a local supplier? The game began 30 minutes late and Gloucester won 12-6.

Standing on the roof in front of a a large crowd

We have seen numerous examples this year of grounds men under pressure just before a game to fix something that requires working at height and in almost every case they have no access equipment to hand. Perhaps this is an opportunity for quick thinking sales staff? While this is not the worst case we have seen it is a definite for our Death Wish series.
