When is a crane not a crane

The ‘crane’ accident in Ann Arbor, Detroit, Michigan today was in fact an excavator and not a crane.

The mass media is widely reporting a fatal crane accident today in Ann Arbor, Detroit Michigan. It was most definitely not a crane but a tracked 360 degree excavator that accidently ran over a 57 year old man due to a blind spot.

Such misunderstandings in the media are commonplace with reporters seeming to think that any large piece of construction equipment is a crane.

Many thanks for all of you who tipped us off, to the crane accident and for those of you who have yet to hear of it, be assured that although it is no less sad and tragic an incident, it does not involve a crane of any kind.
