Barnes retires today

Barry Barnes director of sales for Terex Cranes Europe, is retiring today after more than 30 years with the company.

Barnes joined Terex with its acquisition of Demag mobile cranes in 2002, and has been the UK face of Demag/Terex since the early 1970s, having joined Demag's London office as an 18 year old in 1965. He also spent some time selling the company’s big cranes to major accounts in North America and in 2010 announced his intention to retire and appointed Lee Maynard to take over his UK role. Terex Cranes president Kevin Bradley said: “Barry is well respected throughout the cranes industry, due to his in-depth knowledge of the company’s history and products, combined with his interpersonal skills and loyal commitment to customers. Today I want to extend my gratitude to Barry. I am pleased that he will continue to work with us to support our customers.”

Barnes added: “I have been in the crane industry for nearly 50 years, and it is a very interesting feeling and emotion, as I remember my very first day at work with the Company and many landmarks till this point. Comments

Although I have not been directly involved in cranes for some years I am glad to say I regard Barry as a good pal.

Terex has lost one of the most talented and knowledgable crane men in the world and one of the very highest integrity.

Over the years I placed orders for many millions of pounds of cranes with Barry and although he was tough he was a pleasure to deal with.Terex will struggle to replace him !

I wish Barry and his family all the very best for the future.

Barry.

Delighted that you are finally deciding to take it easy after a great career. You have been a great friend to our company over the years, and will be sorely missed.

You were, and still are - the best salesman to ever have come through our door. I will miss the lines "you will make a lot of money with this crane..." and "No other crane company has bought this crane for this price...!".

I wish you and Rita the most wonderful retirement, and look forward to meeting you both for a knee's up, and this time - I'M paying !
