New investor in MSD Industrial

The Leoni Sceti Group (LSC) – an international investment, fund management and advisory group - has invested a 'sizeable amount' in Darlington, UK-based crane rental company MSD Industrial made up of MSD Cranes and Equipment and MSD Darlington which acted as the holding company.

The refinancing deal is said to allow MSD to grow its business organically from £2 million to £5 million over the next four years, expanding operations and its customer base throughout the North East and beyond. Its crane fleet may also grow from the current 16 cranes to more than 30.

The refinancing will allow MSD to support a new capital spending programme and improve cash flow and working capital. Patrick Leoni Sceti, founder of LSG, has also been appointed as finance director of the company, bringing with him expertise from investment projects with companies of all sizes.

“LSG is very excited at the opportunity to participate in MSD’s ambitious expansion plans in the region,” said Leoni Sceti. “The company’s experienced management team, now complemented by our financial expertise, is well positioned to take its business to the next level and we see the MSD group as an ambitious organisation growing into one of the leading players within the North East crane hire market.”

Gary Stephens managing director of MSD, added: “MSD required clear leadership on the financial side of the business and together with a significant equity injection, LSG’s involvement will help the business achieve its goals to expand the company’s operations and grow its fleet.”

LSG is an international investment, fund management and advisory group with close links to the North East. The Group has been both investing and advising companies in the region over the past 18 months with a specific focus on the Small and Medium Enterprises (SME) segment in the North East and Yorkshire.

In February last year, Patrick Leoni Sceti made a significant investment in Wakefield-based access rental company Lifterz, also becoming its finance director.

LSG says that it is looking for other opportunities in the industrial sector in Northern England - both the North East and North West - particularly companies with a few years trading but looking for investment. Other investment opportunities include international early-stage technology-based businesses.

Sceti was educated in Milan, Italy and then spent five years working in banking and private equity transactions with Morgan Stanley in London.
