Quiet start for Rental show

The 2010 Rental show in Orlando, Florida got off to a fairly slow start yesterday, although most exhibitors said that it was slightly better than last year with a more positive outlook from visitors.
The show is definitely smaller but still a sizeable access show, with all of the majors exhibiting. JLG (back after a year of absence), Genie, Haulotte, Skyjack and Snorkel with the largest access stand at the show.
Manitou/Gehl, JLG, Genie showed telehandlers, while Skyjack and Haulotte chose not to bring their products. Cranes were represented by Maeda mini/spider cranes.
New products included the new Bravi Lui 460 - a 15ft platform height – larger heavier duty version of the Leonardo concept. The unit is 760mm wide, 1,600 long and weighs 1,265kgs., When the dual decks are extended the machine has a platform length of almost 2.4 metres and capacity of 280kgs.
Haulotte/Biljax unveiled a self propelled version of the UK designed Power Tower with 10ft platform height. Biljax introduced the push-around Power Tower, modified for the North American market and produced under licence, at the 2008 ARA under the designation PT10.
The new unit, dubbed PT10SP coverts the rugged unit to a low level self propelled lift with 30 percent gradeability and 3MPH maximum travel speed. Total weight is 568kgs.
Cornerstone launched a new heavy duty quick fit fork rotator for telehandlers, the concept which uses a massive helical gear rotator is apparently already approved by Gehl for use on its telehandlers.
Genie announced a number of new product support initiatives for later this year and announced the X designation for four of its straight boom models giving them a high capacity option as reported yesterday.
Skyjack showed the final pre-production version of its SJ12 and SJ16 12/16ft self propelled mast lift, first seen as a concept machine at APEX in late 2008. Except to see units shipping later this year as the market pick up.
Custom Equipment showed the final version of its new compact lightweight Scissor lift the HBS-830 with 8ft/2.4 metre platform height. The concept was show last year as a 5ft product. Customer input though caused the company to rework the concept into the current product that will soon go into production.
Snorkel has a lot of news starting with its new logo and the Pop-Up deal. New products included its new TB46JRT 46ft telescopic boom, big scissors, new 19ft scissor lift and the New Zealand built TL39 – a compact rugged trailer lift that uses the AB38 top on a locally designed heavy duty trailer.
The ARA, IPAF, AEM and Scaffold Industry Association also used the show to announce the launch of its joint Statement of Best Practices of General Training and Familiarisation for Aerial Work Platform Equipment. A very user freindly publicaiton informing Manufacturers, Rental Companies, Users and Operators of their obligations for training operators.. more on this later.
