Eight cranes for dship Carriers

German maritime company dship Carriers has ordered eight more Liebherr LS 250 heavy lift ship cranes for delivery next year. The cranes will equip four new D 500 class vessels, with two units per ship.

The LS 250 cranes offer a maximum lifting capacity of 250 tonnes with 36 metre maximum outreach. Features include hydraulic piping, fully enclosed crane columns and Liebherr's Litronic control system providing real time operating data. The units are designed to comply with St. Lawrence Seaway regulations for vessels navigating between Canada's Great Lakes and the Atlantic Ocean.

Liebherr will manufacture the cranes at its Rostock facility on Germany's Baltic coast and ship them from there to a Chinese shipyard for installation.

dship Carriers chief executive Lars Feller said: "The LS 250 cranes offer us the performance and reliability we need for our global operations. These criteria were decisive for dship to join forces with Liebherr to equip our fleet."

Robert Pitschmann, Liebherr global application manager added: "We are proud that we are strengthening dship's fleet with the LS 250. This is a joint success that is essentially based on mutual trust and appreciation."

The partnership between Liebherr and dship Carriers began in 2019 with dship currently operating four F 500 class vessels, each equipped with two LS 250 cranes. Liebherr Hamburg will handle maintenance and servicing of the new cranes once operational.
