Merlo to set up in Ireland

Merlo is set to launch its own distribution organisation in the Republic of Ireland.

For the past 10 years the company has worked through its distributor McHale Plant Sales, but has now decided to follow a system that it has used elsewhere, such as in the UK, where it sets up its own import and support operation which will work with a group of local dealers.

The new arrangement will see the appointment of dealers for both Merlo agricultural and construction product lines. The partnership with McHale will conclude this summer, by which time Merlo hopes to be ready with its own operation and a number of dealers.

Chief executive Paolo Merlo said: “The Irish telescopic handler market continues to grow year on year, which is very encouraging. As a family owned and progressive business, we are committed to increasing our presence globally and Ireland is a key part of our future plans.”

“The successful relationship between Merlo & McHale began more than 10 years ago, and we wish to thank McHale Plant Sales for the excellent work in those years. It has for sure set the right foundation to empower Merlo's products to carry forward the strongest of reputations in the Irish market and we wish the team at McHale all the very best for the future.”
