Gottwalds for Italian port

Italy based Civitavecchia Fruit and Forest Terminal (CFFT) has ordered two Konecranes Gottwald Model 5 mobile harbour cranes, a new 125 tonne and a used 150 tonne.

Both cranes operate up to a radius of 51 metres. The new crane is diesel electric and equipped with a remote access function, enabling the customer and Konecranes’ service team to access operating and diagnostics data. Both machines will handle reefer containers as well as palletised fruit at the port in Rome.

CFFT managing director Steven Clerckx said: “Our long term strategy foresees the successive expansion of our infrastructure to strengthen our position as a leading terminal for importing bananas and pineapples to Italy. As the backbone of this infrastructure, we have now opted for an impressive solution based on a new and a used crane from Konecranes. The benefits include immediate availability of the cranes, which will lead to improved quayside handling capacity in the short term.”

Konecranes regional sales manager Gino Gherri added: “The solution for CFFT was developed in close cooperation between the Italian and Belgian teams of both the customer and Konecranes. The result confirms our portfolio strategy, which enables us to provide operators around the globe with packages flexibly tailored to their needs. As in the case of CFFT, these complementary packages can include both state of the art new cranes and used cranes, which provide a long remaining lifetime and outstanding value for money.”
