Kalmar RMGs for Dutch port

Netherlands harbour operator Rotterdam Short Sea Terminals (RST) has ordered two 41 tonne Kalmar rail mounted gantry (RMG) cranes.

The two electric double cantilever cranes are equipped with a rotating trolley and have a span of 54 metres. The first crane will be delivered in late 2019 and the second in early 2020.

RST manager, technical department and projects Cees van Pelt said: "Kalmar has been a reliable partner for many years, so naturally we turned to them to support our ongoing expansion plans. The key factor for us is that the Kalmar RMG solution is not 'one size fits all'. Instead, we were able to work closely with their expert team to develop a highly customised solution that meets our operational needs and demands."

Kalmar vice president, intelligent crane solutions Ilkka Annala added: "Our successful co-operation with RST is something we are very proud of, so we are pleased to be able to announce another order that further strengthens the relationship between our two organisations. The design flexibility that these new RMGs offer is all down to the hard work and dedication of the fantastic team we have at Kalmar, who are truly committed to delivering tailored solutions that add real value for our customers. This is already the fourth RMG order we have received since the product was launched in September 2017."

Rotterdam Short Sea Terminals is the largest short sea shipping hub in Europe, with over 320 employees processing over 800,000 containers a year. The terminal already operates nine Kalmar Ship To Shore cranes.
