New booms and features from Genie

This week Genie launched further additions to its XC boom lift line, the 60ft S-60XC, 65ft S-65XC, 80ft S-80XC and 85ft S-85XC as well as the North American version of the 45ft Z-45/25XC articulated boom lift, the European version of which started to ship earlier this year.

The four new XC models include dual 300kg/454kg platform capacities, with automatic working envelope control, which takes the live information feed from the platform overload system to calculate the actual weight in the platform, adjusting the maximum outreach to match, in a smooth load curve. For example when lowering a fully extended boom with more than 300kg on board, the boom will automatically and smoothly retract as it reaches the maximum outreach, keeping it within the levels permitted for that load.

The boom and jib lengths of the XC models are the same as for the non XC models, as is outreach, working height and up & over reach etc… but all structural elements of the lift mechanism have been reinforced to suit the additional loadings imposed by the higher platform capacities.

The new S-60/S-65 XC and S-80/ S-85 XC booms also feature an improved working zone thanks to a the new tilt sensing technology which progressively adjusts the working range, depending on the slope sensed and automatically cuts certain lift and drive functions to match that permitted on the slope.

Other features include a new CAN SLC 600 control system, for which the company has introduced the new Tech Pro Link handheld diagnostics tool. The device plugs into the machine’s lower or upper controls via a four pin Deutsch connector (a wireless connection is also planned) allowing users to monitor a machine’s sensors, including engine temperature, oil pressure, fuel levels and battery voltage, calibrate the machine, make speed adjustments during pre-operation inspection, receive fault code information on the devices large built in screen. The device has a strong built in magnet allowing it to attach to the machine for hands free working.

Engineering manager Harrison Jenkins said: “The information is readily available without having to navigate layers and layers of menu structure. It is designed to provide real time information that will keep our new Genie XC boom lifts up and running.”

The booms feature Tier 4F/Stage IIIB diesels power, four wheel drive with positive traction drive maintaining equal power to all drive wheels, an updated active oscillating axle and 360 degree continuous slew. They will also incorporate the new Lift Power built in generator options, which now use a dedicated, rather than shared pump, allowing the generator to continue working while the machine is being driven Models include a 3KW 50 or 60hz with 110 or 230 volts, a 7KW model for Australia, and a Three phase system option for the USA.

Shipments of the new models will begin during the first and second quarter next year.
