Typhoon damages tower crane

Typhoon Hato hit Hong Kong and Macau this week resulting in at least nine deaths and extensive damage as winds approached 120mph. Some tower cranes also sustained damage, although we have no reports of any coming down. Although at least one came close to losing its jib

The jib was left tilted towards to dislocated foot pivot

The incident left the jib suspended on one foot pivot and its pendants, after the pin securing the jib pivot retainer bracket was ripped out.

These photos are aimed of course at the technically minded, and show what can happen in such circumstances. Thankfully no one was hurt and no non crane damage was done.

Was the crane set too a free-slewing mode properly? (I assume it was not working, given the conditions...)
