New booms and scissors from Sinoboom

Chinese manufacturer Sinoboom will launch three new products over the next two months, a mast boom, scissor lift and articulated boom lift.

The first the GTTZ10EJ 10 metre mast boom, the company’s first product in this market. The unit is classic design with box section mast, fixed length jib with 3.3 metres of outreach, 345 degrees of slew. The new machine will also incorporate integral fork lift pockets and lifting lugs on top of the chassis for better balance when lifting, and active pot hole protection.

The new compact slab electric scissor lift is the 46ft GTJZ1412 will offer a 16 metre working height within the regular 1.2 metre wide 2.4 metre…ish long product sector. The company’s highest scissor lift is currently the 33ft GTJZ1012. Sinoboom has not yet released a detailed specification on this model but claims that that battery life is 20 percent better than regular machines with improved gradeability, suggesting direct electric drive.

The third new machine is a 52ft battery electric boom lift, the GTZZ16EJ which updates an existing model and offers up to 9.37 metres of outreach, a working height of 17.8 metres and a platform capacity of 230kg. Gradeability is 40 percent and it is expected to share the same overall width as the current model at 1.9 metres. This unit includes on-board diagnostics and improved electrics. Another interesting development on this model is the use of “carbon fibre reinforced” covers.

Vertikal Comment

While we still have minimal information on the detailed specification of these new models, on the surface the look excellent. The company will also have learnt a great deal from its co-operation with JCB, which may or may not still be active? It is now making strong progress as are its two main competitors on the international scene - Mantall and Dingli.

While uptake of these new models might be a little slow to take off in Europe and North America expect them to do very well in Asian markets, while the mast booms and scissor lifts will probably start to make an appearance in European fleets by late spring/early summer 2018.

The challenge facing the top Chinese manufacturers now is not the technology of their products, but the distribution, and even more critically the ongoing product support. Crack these and they will be a real force to reckon with, at least in terms of the smaller models. Resale values will hamper the sale of larger equipment in the west for many more years yet.
