London fire platforms

A news item broadcast on BBC Television - London News this weekend asked: "Why was London’s highest rescue platform only 37 metres?"

While this issue and news item has not received anything like the prominence the type of cladding used has, it is a rare example of the mainstream media taking the subject of aerial work platforms seriously. It may also prove to be a wake-up call to other cities that have high-rise buildings and no aerial lifts large enough to make a difference?

The video can be found in the Vertikal.net video library. Simply click here to go directly to it.

One thing that looks likely is that this issue will create more demand for 90 metre truck mounted lifts. Ruthmann may well have made a savvy call with its recent announcement to enter this market next year?

My question is how did a relatively modern sky scraper not have a sprinkler system installed??? That truly boggles the mind...
