HSS announces new CEO

UK rental group HSS has appointed Steve Ashmore as its new chief executive effective June 1st

He replaces John Gill, who steps down on Tuesday after just 19 months in the job and eight years with the company. His departure follows the recent results announcement in which revenues increased 10 percent, but pre-tax losses jumped 25 percent to £17.4 million, due mostly to a the company’s ongoing restructuring programme.

Steve Ashmore


Ashmore began his career with Lucas in 1988 as a senior manufacturing systems engineer, two years later he became a management consultant with AT Kerney, before joining Exel where he spent 11 years in various roles, split between the UK and Spain. In 2005 he joined the Wolseley group as a core brand development director, becoming managing director of the group’s Plumb, Parts and BCG business in 2007. He was promoted to managing director of the Heavyside division a year later and finally became managing director of Wolseley UK in 2010. Most recently he had a short spell with Brammer, an industrial maintenance products distributor, leaving when the business was sold to a private equity house.
