AFI moves into Bahrain

UK based access sales and rental group AFI has opened a new location in Bahrain as part of its expansion programme in the Middle East.

The new depot began operations by supplying two 126ft Snorkel TB126J, an 86ft JLG 860SJ, 85ft Snorkel TB85J and 86ft Skyjack SJ86T boom lifts for use at the recent Bahrain Grand Prix.

AFI began operations in the Middle East in 2008 with its subsidiary Access Rental Gulf from a base in Dubai. Since then it has added further locations in Abu Dhabi, Dammam and Jeddah in Saudi Arabia and Doha Qatar, and now Bahrain. The rental fleet across these countries now exceeds 850 units, with the business employing more than 70 people in the region. With the opening of the Bahrain depot, AFI is increase the fleet to almost 900 machines, representing total investment in the region of $6 million so far this year.

AFI chairman David Shipman said: “The Middle East is a significant market for our industry and we are delighted to have reached another landmark in our strategy. We launched new depots in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and Qatar last year and the new Bahrain depot brings the total to six depots across four GCC countries. We are proud that our fleet was used for such a prestigious event as the recent Bahrain Grand Prix, which is testament to both the quality of our machinery and our outstanding level of customer service.”
