Crane and access incident in Houston

A crane overturned yesterday while lifting a large sign in Houston, Texas swiping the platform of the aerial lift that was working alongside.

The incident occurred in the Galleria area of the city, the crane, a four axle Grove truck crane, was lifting down one of the large circular signs said to weigh around three tonnes when it lost stability over the rear clipped the platform from which two men were working, slightly injuring one of them and dropped its boom into the centre of the intersection. At this stage we are not sure what caused the crane to lose stability, it had its full five section boom extended and should have been well within its capacity range, depending on what counterweight was installed.
