Crane inspector fatality

Crane inspector Ricky McIntosh, 55, died on Wednesday when a catwalk collapsed while he was inspecting an overhead crane at Ford’s Dearborn Diversified Manufacturing Plant in Detroit, Michigan.

According to a statement from the Michigan Occupational Health and Safety Administration he was walking across a wooden catwalk toward a crane that he was going to inspect, or was inspecting when it collapsed under him, causing him to fall between 11 and 16 metres to the concrete floor. He suffered multiple injuries and was rushed to hospital where he later died.

A statement from Ford said: “We are saddened that a contractor working at our Dearborn Diversified Manufacturing Plant this morning passed away as a result of injuries suffered when he fell from a crane. We offer our sincerest condolences to his family, friends and colleagues. The safety and security of everyone in our plants is our highest priority. We are cooperating fully with the investigation.”
