5. January 2017 | Comments (0)

JCB has landed its largest single telehandler order ever, a $142 million deal to supply the United States Army with compact telescopic handlers.

The order includes more than 1,600 light-capability units for deployment around the world loading and unloading aircraft and shipping containers. The unit has a maximum capacity of 2,260kg and a 5.8 metre lift height. Overall width is two metres, with an overall height of 1.98 metres. Maximum travel speed is 20 mph and modifications allow it meet the army’s wading and fording.

The new 527-58M is based on JCB’s standard compact telehandlers and will be produced at its North American plant in Savannah, Georgia. All unit have a two year warranty with replacement parts being available through the manufacturers regular distributor network.

Chief executive Graeme Macdonald said: “This order is fantastic news for JCB and a great way to start the New Year. It is the second highest value order in the company’s history, and I congratulate everyone who has worked to secure this valuable contract in the same year that we mark 40 years of telescopic handler production.”

Arjun Mirdha president of JCB North America, added: “We are proud that the U.S. Army has once again chosen JCB and its Savannah-based manufacturing facility to produce an extraordinary piece of specialised equipment. Over the past three decades, JCB has supplied more than 4,000 machines to armed forces in 57 countries, and we have acquired a deep understanding of how the Army uses equipment and the unique features needed.”
