Christmas tree proves too heavy

A large crane overturned while attempting to load the big Christmas tree destined to stand in famous Piazza Duomo in Milan, Italy this year.

The tree had been felled and lowed to the ground by the by a five axle All Terrain owned and operated by Italian crane rental specialist Poloniato, with the tailing in assistance of another.

It was then being lifted horizontally onto the waiting truck by the same crane when something happened. Either the radius shifted causing an overload or the ground gave way below the cranes outriggers.

Fortunately if anyone was sitting in the driving seat of this tractor - they moved before it was too late


As can be seen from the video the crane overturned with the boom landing on a farm tractor. Thankfully no one was injured in the incident and the tree made it to Milan on time for last weeks lighting ceremony.

One thing that may be worth pointing out - did you notice outriggers folding in afer the crane comes to rest on it's side? If that's a common occurance, and only photos made after the accident are available, it can be pretty misleading, can't it be?...
