Harness saves road worker

A man was injured last night on the Florida Turnpike, near Taramac to the north of Miami when a car ploughed into a truck mounted lift working alongside the road.

The injured man was driving the car which caught fire after smashing into the back of the truck, becoming wedged under the chassis. The man working in the platform around six metres above ground was unhurt thanks to his harness and lanyard keeping him in the basket. Although he had to be rescued with a fire ladder.
The platform is operated by the Florida Department of Transportation.
