Active sold

Scotland’s Active Access has been acquired by material handling sales and rental company Euro Mechanical Handling or EMH.

EMH, which is based in Bellshill - as is Active Access - has purchased the entire share capital of the company from current owner Andrew McCusker. It offers a wide range of fork trucks and some aerial lifts for short or long term rental. Leigh Baker, who is currently access sales director at Active will take over the day to day running of the business and manage the transition to the new owner. The operation will also relocate to a two acre purpose built rental depot in Bellshill, sharing the location with EMH.

In addition, the new owners have already agreed to add three brand new 17, 20 and 26 metre Hinowa Spider lifts along with a dozen larger booms consisting of Genie S65, S85 and S125s to the Active rental fleet.

Leigh Baker

EMH managing director Seref Zengin said: “Powered access has been a natural progression for us as our customer base has been drawing us in to a cross over for some time. We have been working n partnership with Andrew and Leigh and it wasn’t a difficult decision for us when this opportunity came up. We have been impressed with Leigh Baker’s professionalism and with his extensive knowledge of the access business, we are delighted that he will head up our new operation.”

McCusker added: “I am delighted with this agreement, no one has worked harder at any business than I have at Active Access. I know that the company is now in safe hands, we have discussed the growth plans and I am excited that I will be able to see the business flourish under Leigh and Seref’s stewardship. I will step down as Managing Director at the end of the month, however I will remain with the business on an advisory capacity for the next 12 months. I wish Leigh, Seref and the team every success for the future.”

This is great news for all the guys involved. A grown up decision from Andy and a strong business for EMH. For all the staff that have worked so hard within Active, and all the suppliers, they now have some security moving into 2017. Begs the question why so many other acquisitions and mergers aren't done so amicably.
