LHM 600 for Jamaica

Jamaican terminal operator Kingston Wharves has ordered a 208 tonne Liebherr LHM 600 mobile harbour crane.

The LHM 600 will be shipped from Rostock, Germany to the multi-purpose terminal in Kingston, where it will be based. Liebherr claims that it will be the largest mobile harbour crane working in the Caribbean. It is intended to increase the handling efficiency of big container vessels up to Super-Post-Panamax size. The crane has a maximum radius of 58 metres, twin lift capability and can service vessels up to 19 container rows wide and nine container stacks high.

Kingston Wharves chief executive Grantley Stephenson said: “This new machine is the next essential future investment in our terminal in order to handle the new generation of vessels that are heading for us in the course of the Panama Canal expansion. Our crane operators will be delighted with the impressive eye-level of more than 37 metres that comes along with the special tower extension. The LHM 600 – starting operation in October – will maximise our efficiencies, increase our responsiveness and, ultimately, meet our customer’s demands.”
