Sims Crane expands safety team

Sims Crane & Equipment of Florida has appointed David Wessin as South Florida safety director.

In this new role he will be responsible for overseeing project safety for Sims Crane’s South Florida branches located in West Palm Beach, Miami and Fort Myers. He will work alongside Bob Berry, Sims crane safety director, to maintain and improve safety practices throughout the entire organisation.

David Wessin


Wessin joins Sims from Miami based Coastal Construction group, where has been vice president safety & loss control for more than eight years. Prior to that, he was with Coscan Construction in Fort Lauderdale for two years as corporate safety director. He joined Coscan in 2006 from James A Cummings where he was safety director for more than four years.

He started his safety career in 1983 as a safety coordinator with Merillat Industries, he left 14 years later in 1997 to join RSC Rental as safety manager. From there he moved to Fisher Clark Construction as safety/HR manager and then Catalfumo Industries as safety director. In all he has over 33 years experience working in safety He also serves on the Safety and Health Committee of the National Associated General Contractors of America and is the founder/chairman of the Safety Alliance for Excellence, which has nearly 200 members in South Florida and is a resource for safety and risk professionals to discuss industry issues.

Vice president of marketing Dean Sims II said: “As Sims continues to grow and add new projects to our portfolio, we are expanding our safety department and David is a great addition to the team.”

Wessin added: “I was first introduced to Sims Crane more than 15 years ago and have witnessed first hand their exceptional customer service and commitment to safety. I am excited to have the opportunity to work with such an outstanding organisation.”
