The chief financial officer of Finnish international rental group Cramo, Martti Ala-Härkönen, has resigned to pursue other opportunities outside the company.

Aku Rumpunen has replaced him on an interim basis. Rumpunen joined Cramo in 2012 and became senior vice president group business control in 2013. A search for a replacement has been launched.

The company has also announced the appointment of Peter Bäckström as managing director of Cramo Sweden. He will take up his new role in January replacing Göran Carlson, managing director Cramo Scandinavia, who leaves again after re-joining the company last year. Bäckström will also be responsible for Cramo Denmark, while Cramo Norway will report to chief executive Leif Gustafsson.

Bäckström is currently with Global Workplace Solutions - part of CBRE, a commercial real estate services group - where he is director and divisional leader for service delivery Nordic, with 500 employees and revenues of $135 million across four countries. Before that he worked with Johnson Controls for almost 11 years, until it merged with CBRE. He joined the company in 2004, following 11 years with international roadside assistance and recovery business Falk.

He began his working life in 1978 with the Swedish Army, becoming a major before departing in 1992 for Falck, in his 11 years with the company he held increasingly senior roles, including managing director of its operation in Finland, taking up the same role in Falck Sweden in 2002.

Chief executive Leif Gustafsson said: “Peter Bäckström is a proven senior executive with a strong track record in service development and service sales. His experience from different leading positions in various international and cultural contexts will be a strong asset for Cramo. His track record from service development and growth fits perfectly in the Cramo strategy.

“Göran Carlson’s contribution to Cramo’s development has been significant both in his earlier position as deputy chief executive and when he returned to the company as Swedish managing director and executive vice president Scandinavia. Göran’s decision to accept the position last year has been valuable to improve the profitability further in Sweden and helped us in finding a smooth transition into a more permanent solution. I wish him the best of luck in his future endeavours."

Göran Carlson added: “Cramo is an extremely inspiring company to work for. When returning to the company last year it was mutually understood that the intention was to facilitate a smooth transition into a more permanent solution in view of the chief executive transition. Now is a good time for a change. We are entering a new strategic phase on group level and we have a successor with a more long-term perspective in Scandinavia. In addition, Sweden is performing at top level and we have seen great improvements in Norway and Denmark further underlining the good timing.”
