Shocked at height

A man was badly burnt yesterday in El Cajon, near San Diego, California after he got too close to an overhead power line while working from a bucket truck.

The man is employed by San Diego Gas & Electric was working on the transformer or pole, when an arc of electricity hit him causing his clothes to catch fire. He was seen stamping out the flames and was brought back to the ground where he was treated by the emergency services before being rushed to the burns unit of a hospital in San Diego.

The platform following the incident


A from the company said: “The SDG&E family is saddened to report that one of our employees has been injured and transported to the hospital. There is no higher priority than the safety of our employees and community and we will fully investigate this incident.”

Cal/OSHA is investigating the incident and has confirmed that the man is seriously injured.
