Fatal crane fall

An electrician working on a rail mounted container crane at the Port of Fernandina in Florida died yesterday after the crane cab he was working in broke away and fell around 30 metres to the ground.

Timothy Dubberly, 58, was an employee of port manager Kinder-Morgan, the details of what caused the ‘cab’ to break away from the crane are unclear, but reportedly followed a cable break. Work at the port was suspended while the local police and Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) investigate. A photo that we have been sent shows a large telescopic boom lift working on the crane. We do not know if it was involved, or was brought in by the investigators.

Our thoughts and prayers are with his wife and family. The company is providing grief counsellors for employees at the terminal and also seeing to the needs of Mr. Dubberly’s family.”
