Sitting in the sling

Spotted in we assume India an example of a primitive form of powered access using a crane and sling

The man was apparently working on an overhead electricity cable, attaching it to the top of the narrow post, not exactly the safest job to start with, but in order to reach it some six to eight metres above the ground, he sat in a wide web sling and allowed himself to be hoisted to the work on the hook of a well used articulated tractor crane.

Sitting in the sling playing with electricity

The sender has clearly tried to hide the full name of the cargo movers company, but those who took this risk will know who they are. The risks here are high, ignoring the risk of a shock, the man could easily slip ot of the sling of course, or perhaps worse become a two block warning device, with his screams - as he is snarled up between the boom nose and hook block – alerting the crane operator to the fact that he has over hoisted.

Hopefully this never happened and all is well, but definitely one for our Death Risk series, oh and if you recognise the location, perhaps you might wish to let them know that there are far safer and more efficient methods of reaching this work than rigging up a home made bosuns chair.

I wonder if the chap in the sling realizes the risks. This reminds me of my first days of climbing trees my teacher being Experience. The exam comes before the lesson.
